Puppy Socialization and Manners Class
During the first 3 months of life, your puppy is going through a socialization period that will influence his responses to varied stimuli for the rest of his life. This first socialization period is a critical time for exposing your puppy to new sights, sounds, and experiences in a way that creates a positive association. A well-planned, reward-based puppy class is a MUST to help facilitate these experiences and lay the groundwork for a resilient and well-rounded dog in the future. Start your puppy off on the right paw by joining us for puppy class right here at Freeport Vet!
We cannot stress enough the importance of puppy classes. These are opportunities for puppies to socialize with different puppies their age as well as new people. They also get a chance to learn new skills in a busy environment. The American Kennel Club has a great article on why puppy classes are so important. During the six weeks of puppy class at Freeport Vet, your puppy will learn foundation behaviors such as sit, down, focus, and leash walking. In addition to this, part of every class will be devoted to important life skills such as emotional control, acceptance of gentle handling, and socialization to environmental and social stimuli.
We are excited to welcome Rebecca Roy, CPDT to teach our puppy classes. Rebecca has been working with dogs and their people for 8 years. She recently relocated to Maine and we are excited to have her join the team!
In order to maintain adequate social distancing for we are limiting class sizes and practicing social distancing. Participants will be required to wear a mask during class. Please limit your attendance to 1 human per puppy and no children under the age of 12. Thank you!!
